Vela’s Creative Statement

Graphic design is what we see and breathe every day, they can be almost unnoticeable, but they slowly affect us in a very subtle way.

Just like other human beings, I gravitate towards visually pleasant things from a very young age. However, after middle school, I found myself in a place where I find visually unpleasant designs extremely disturbing. My urge to fix the ‘wrongs’ increased day by day, and it frustrates me when realizing that I did not have the knowledge and tools to solve the problems. However, the moment when I found out about visual language and graphic design was the moment I found my passion in life, and I extremely appreciate that the education I got from Loyola Marymount University College of Fine Arts enables me to make graphic design my profession.

Artists express emotions for themselves, graphic designers express spirits for others. I believe that graphic design does not only involves art and technology, but also empathy. A genuine and heartfelt communication with clients is crucial for setting the right direction in design. As a graphic designer, I recognize that a project is just a part of my portfolio; but for clients, the projects might become a major part of the rest of their lives. Therefore, I value every project with the same amount of care and love.
